This is a remarkable wine, made from old vines planted about 1912 at the Galleano home ranch, for the production of California Port.
This section of the vineyard is the healthiest and most beautiful. Strong but not big head-trained vines, with long, twisting arms. The fruit that it bears is small-clustered, tight, compact. It is very intense in the mouth, with striking acidity even when it is richly ripe. You can taste and feel the tannin.
We are so fortunate that Domenic offered us some of the fruit this year-- it is really his most prized.
We made a wine we hope that he will be proud of: deep, dark, intense, with great structure. Ripe, but stern, not jammy. Another desert wonder.
