I am so excited to bring the second installment of the traveling Twleve Seats program to La Mama in Santa Fe, as part of the Dérive wine weekend.
The first version took place about a month ago at Chambers Restaurant in New York City, in collaboration with managing partner and divine wine director, Pascaline Lepeltier.
The idea there and here is for me to offer a brief and casual seminar on a topic within the sphere of what you might call the Metaphysics of wine-- and to accompany our discussion with the drinking of wine.
I will be speaking this time on territoriality and borders in wine-- the role of delimited vineyards and appellations, the relation to permanence and immobility. At the instigation of Pascaline and our friend Chiara Pepe, I will also talk about verticality versus extension on surfaces-- like the surface of the earth. The central motif for these explorations will be the Tower of Babel; with both aspects caught in the 17th century illustration at left.
This won't be a lecture, but it won't be a tasting, either. We will be pouring wines to go with our discussion-- 8 or 9 different wines, including two made by me. There will be 4 delicious snacks to keep your palate fresh and your attention focused, but it won't be a dinner either.
Seating is limited to 14 guests.
