A beautiful wine, our most fresh and aromatic red. Made from 100 year-old vines on the Galleano Home Ranch that they call "Mataro." The vines are lush and resplendent and clearly have access to underground water. They bear lots of fruit and the fruit is dark but large-berried and thin-skinned. The fruit is also very light in tannin but beautifully aromatic-- like a bouquet of summer flowers. It can't really be Mataro and is probably Alicante-- but unlike any Alicante I have ever tried.
Light, charming, but insistent. Not insubstantial.
We put most of the wine into Riverside Red and kept only 16 gallons separate.
